Abstract
|
|
|
This study was intend to grasp the accurate clinical pictures of epileptics in Korea.
190 cases who were given the diagnosis of epilepsy and treated from Oct. 1974 to, May -1976 at the neuron-psychiatry department of Seoul Red Cross Hospital were selected.
And those epileptic who showed the evidence of such as brain injury, brain tumor, cerebral degenerative disease, endocrine disorders and other cerebral and systemic diseases which supposed to give influences to cerebral functioning were excluded from this study. The results obtained were as follows:
1. The incidence in males 61.3%) is highly greater than in females (38.7%).
2. In the distribution of age of onset, it was -78.7% in the age group of between 11 and 25 years old.
3. As to the proportion of clinical types in the 160 cases of epileptics, it was revealed that grand mal seizure was 51.3%, focal motor seizure was 16.3%, psychomotor seizure was 8. 1%, mixed types of centrencephalic and focal cerebral seizure was -7.5%.
4. In the proportion of frequencies of seizures, the highest proportion is I to 4 times per monthly (27.5%).
5. In all of the cases, the proportion of abnormal EEG, findings was 56.2%.
